Medical Innovations – Patent Mitra is a flagship initiative launched on March 8, 2025, under the guidance of NITI Aayog and spearheaded by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), in partnership with the Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) and supported by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).

The initiative aims to build a robust and dynamic ecosystem that promotes innovation in biomedical research by providing comprehensive Patent and Technology Transfer (TT) support to innovators at every stage of the patent lifecycle.

With a vision to translate cutting-edge biomedical research into practical solutions that advance public health across India, it supports strategic and high-quality patent filings while facilitating seamless technology transfer for meaningful societal impact. Through fully government-funded support and end-to-end digital operations, the initiative empowers start-ups, academic institutions, medical colleges and ICMR-supported researchers to transform innovation into protected and deployable health technologies.

MedTech Mitra

From Innovation to Clinical Adoption

NITI Aayog ICMR CDSCO

MedTech Mitra is a NITI Aayog–ICMR–CDSCO initiative designed to foster the development of affordable and accessible indigenous therapeutics, vaccines, medical devices, in-vitro diagnostics and assistive technologies by providing strategic handholding support to MedTech innovators for clinical evaluation, regulatory facilitation and uptake of new products.
